The internet is officially buzzing. DreamWorks and Universal Pictures just dropped the very first teaser trailer for Shrek 5, and things are looking incredibly exciting for our favorite ogre family.
It has been a long time since Shrek Forever After hit theaters back in 2010. While the franchise has seen a few scheduling shifts over the last year, the movie is officially locked in for a theatrical premiere on June 30, 2027. This brand-new footage proves the return to the swamp is going to be well worth the wait.
Here is a breakdown of the biggest, funniest, and most surprising details revealed in the new Shrek 5 teaser!
1. The Ogre Triplets Are All Grown Up
Remember Shrek and Fiona’s adorable little ogre babies? A major timeskip has officially turned them into full-blown teenagers. Dealing with three ogre teens is bound to bring a completely new chaotic energy to the swamp.
Even more exciting is the star-studded voice cast joining original heavy-hitters Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy:
- Zendaya joins the franchise as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia!
- Saturday Night Live breakout Marcello Hernández voices her brother, Fergus.
- Superman star Skyler Gisondo rounds out the family as Farkle.
2. Classic Humor is Front and Center
The franchise has always excelled at delivering hilarious pop-culture jokes and slightly edgy humor. This new sneak peek proves the writers are leaning right back into what made the original films legendary.
The teaser features a brief but hilarious appearance from the Gingerbread Man, showing off a bold new look that is already sparking tons of viral memes online. We also get a glimpse of the main crew handling some lighthearted jail time, giving Eddie Murphy’s Donkey plenty of room to deliver his classic, fast-talking riffs.
3. A Massive Animated Adventure
While official plot details are still being kept under wraps, the movie is being described as a thrilling, magical new comedy adventure. With original Shrek 2 co-director Conrad Vernon returning to direct alongside Walt Dohrn, the film is in excellent hands.
The brief teaser even treats fans to a nostalgic, threatening little hint of Smash Mouth’s iconic track “All Star,” signaling that the heart of the original movies is fully intact.
